Rajang Port records RM10m profit after tax for 2022

SIBU (Jan 11): Rajang Port Authority (RPA) managed to record an impressive performance last year, when it achieved a profit after tax of RM10 million at the close of financial year 2022, compared with RM4.6 million for 2021.

RPA general manager Datin Helen Lim Hui Shyan said containerised cargo, which had been its core business for the last five years with an average annual growth of 6.5%, rose by 8.4% between 2019 and 2020, the period when the movement control order was enforced.

“In term of TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units), RPA has in the last five years recorded an average increase of 10% annually.

“In terms of dollars and cents, we achieved profit after tax each year from RM740,000 for 2019 to RM2.2 million (2020), RM4.6 million (2021), and a whooping RM10 million at the close of financial year 2022,” she said at RPA’s annual dinner on Tuesday night (Jan 10).

She said the achievements showed that the port authority’s profit after tax increased by over 200% for 2020, 110% (2021), and at least a 117% increase last year.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi said the state government had allocated RM4 million under the 12th Malaysia Plan to carry out a Port Master Plan Study starting this year.

He said the study aims to improve the efficiency of port services, including port consolidation, improvement of port safety, equipment requirements, and exploring new business opportunities.

“The Sarawak government recognises the importance of ports in contributing towards the overall development of the state,” he added.
